Spoon Sports Low Temp Thermostat for Honda K20
The Spoon Sports Low Temp Thermostat 19301-DC5-000 is a performance cooling upgrade designed for Honda’s high-revving K20-powered Civic and Integra platforms.
Spoon Sports developed this thermostat with a lower opening temperature than the standard Honda thermostat. The Spoon unit begins opening at approximately 70°C and reaches its fully open position at approximately 82°C. By comparison, Spoon quotes the standard thermostat at approximately 78°C opening and 90°C fully open.
This means coolant can begin circulating through the radiator earlier, increasing the cooling system’s opportunity to reject heat before coolant temperatures climb further.
Why Fit a Low Temperature Thermostat?
During sustained high-RPM driving, track use or demanding performance driving, a modified K-series engine can generate considerably more heat than it would during ordinary road use.
The Spoon thermostat is designed to help manage this by opening earlier than the factory thermostat.
It does not increase the physical cooling capacity of the radiator by itself and should not be considered a cure for an overheating engine. Instead, it changes when coolant is directed through the radiator, making it a useful part of a properly maintained or upgraded cooling system.
For track-focused vehicles, it can be combined with other cooling upgrades such as a performance radiator, radiator hoses and suitable cooling-system maintenance.
Honda Civic Type R EP3 Application
For UK customers, the principal officially sold UK-market application is the 2001–2005 Honda Civic Type R EP3, powered by the 2.0-litre K20A2 i-VTEC engine.
The EP3 Type R was produced in Swindon and sold officially in the UK with the K20A2 engine. The Spoon thermostat is listed by Spoon for the EP3 chassis, while UK Honda performance specialists also sell part number 19301-DC5-000 specifically for the Civic Type R EP3.
Honda Integra Type R DC5 Compatibility
Spoon also officially lists DC5 Integra K20A compatibility for part number 19301-DC5-000.
The Honda Integra Type R DC5 was not officially sold as a UK-market Honda model. Examples found in Britain are predominantly Japanese-market imports. Therefore, it is intentionally not included in the strict UK-market fitment table below.
Owners of a UK-registered Japanese-import Integra Type R DC5 with the 2.0 K20A engine can nevertheless use this product where the vehicle remains compatible with the original DC5 cooling-system specification.

Important Fitting Information
